Magic Moments Gala Raises Over $185,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters
ST. CLOUD, MN (April 13, 2017) –
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota hosted its annual Magic Moments Gala on Friday April 7, 2017 at the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center. The event was attended by 650 guests and raised over $185,000 for the local program.
In addition to being the agency’s largest annual fundraiser, the Magic Moments Gala also raises awareness of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and the community’s need for mentors.
The evening began with a welcome greeting from Debbie Clausen and Julie McHugh, co-chairs of the event. The event’s emcee, Willow Sweeney, author and co-founder of Top 20 Training, spoke throughout the night about the importance and impact of mentoring driving home the event’s theme “From Little Seeds Grow Mighty Trees.”
Ashley DuBose, who was featured on season 5 of The Voice, spoke of her beginnings in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Among the three songs she performed throughout the night, DuBose sang her latest release, Be You, which she explained was an introspective piece partially-based on the lessons she learned as a Little with the BBBS Program.
Karl Johnson accepted the 2017 BriAnna Kruzel Growing Up Big Award. BriAnna’s mother, Tami Kruzel, was in attendance to present the award. Karl became a mentor in 10th grade and continued on until his sophomore year of college. He is currently finishing up an internship with the United Way and will be graduating this spring from SCSU with a degree in Social Work.
The event’s presenting sponsor was Marco. Airmaxx, Times Media, PCI, and ATS served as “Bright Future” sponsors. Federated Insurance, Traut Companies, and Capital One all serve as a year-round "Biggest" agency sponsors, offering support throughout the year.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota provides mentoring services at no cost to families and youth. All proceeds from the Magic Moments Gala help fund Big Brothers Big Sister’s youth mentoring program benefiting local children who are facing adversity.
