BriAnna Kruzel Growing Up Big Award Recipient Announced

BriAnna Kruzel Growing Up Big Award Recipient Announced

ST. CLOUD, MN (March 3, 2017) –

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota will host its annual Magic Moments Gala on April 7 at the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center. Willow Sweeny, co-founder of Top 20 Training, will provide a dynamic message as the event’s emcee. The Gala will also feature special performances by Ashley DuBose of The Voice.

During the event, Big Brothers Big Sisters will be announcing the 2017 recipient of the BriAnna Kruzel Growing Up Big Award. BriAnna Kruzel, a teen who passed away unexpectedly in September 2013, was a dedicated friend and mentor to a young girl through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota annually recognizes a deserving participant, either a former Little or High School Big, who demonstrates service to the community, character, and integrity.

Karl Johnson of Sauk Rapids has been selected as the 2017 BriAnna Kruzel Growing Up Big Award recipient. The award recipient is chosen by a selection committee comprised of members of BriAnna’s family, a Big Brothers Big Sisters board member, and agency volunteers.

A former Big Brother in the mentoring program, Karl has exhibited determination, personal growth, and a passion for helping others. In addition to his service as mentor, Karl has coached high school soccer for three years and leads two youth groups through his church. He organized a fundraiser and awareness event for homelessness called “Voices of Homelessness”. Karl also works with the YES network, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing food and friendship to children living in poverty.
