Enroll a Child

 

Our Service Area:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota serves children in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns and the northern tier of Wright County (Cities include Albertville, Annandale, Clearwater, Monticello, Otsego, Saint Michael & South Haven).

Eligibility Criteria

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MN seeks to serve children who are most in need of our services. Children are eligible for our program if they meet the age requirement listed above and have one or more of the following traits.

  • Exhibit poor social skills
  • Has few friends his/her own age
  • Lacks adequate support and attention of a stable adult
  • Struggles academically
  • Has a parent/guardian who is or has been incarcerated
  • Has a family member in the military
  • Is eligible for free or reduced lunch
  • Has older siblings who have had significant problems with social or community adjustments
  • Is living in a single, separated, divorced or remarried family situation
  • Has a poor self-concept
  • Dealing with the loss of or serious illness of a family member

Program Options:

Community-Based Program- Community-Based Mentoring is a one-to-one mentoring program where a mentor meets with the child out in the community three to four times a month (on average 2 to 5 hours per outing). Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota will enroll youth from age 7 -16. ​​ Once matched, there's potential for a match to continue until the child is 18 or graduates from high school. School-Based Program- School-Based Mentoring is a one-to-one mentoring program where a mentor meets with a child in the child’s school, 1 hour per week, for one year (meeting in person while school is in session and maintaining contact over the summer by phone, mail or email). Children in this program must be in K-8th grade. If you would like to enroll your child in the School-Based program please contact your child’s teacher or contact your school’s School-Based Coordinator listed below:

Other Site-Based Program- Site-Based Mentoring is a one-to-one mentoring program where a mentor meets with a child in a particular site location (Southside Boys and Girls Club), 1 hour per week, for one year (meeting in person while school is in session and maintaining contact over the summer by phone, mail or email).
